An Announcement: Attorney Amber Hunt Graduates With LL.M
The team at Woodinville Law is thrilled share the following piece written by Attorney, Amber Hunt.
In August 2023, I got the slightly crazy idea to go back to law school. Don’t worry, I’ve been a lawyer all this time, so to all of you whose estate plans I wrote or for those of you I assisted through a probate matter, I promise I had already passed the bar exam (Phew!).
Over the first few years of my career, I started to realize that inevitably, the estate planning conversation would always turn to taxes. After all, death and taxes are the two things you can’t avoid right?
Well maybe not… at least as it applies to some taxes. Nearly two years later, I now have a Tax LL.M. (My boyfriend - who is a user experience designer - would like me to clarify here that this LL.M acronym does not stand for large language model.)
A LL.M is a Master of Law degree which allows a lawyer to specialize in a specific area of law. I choose taxes with the goal of providing my current and future clients with more creative solutions in their estate planning to minimize estate taxes and transfer more of their wealth to their beneficiaries.
I was left with was a better understanding of different types of irrevocable trusts such as a CRUTs (charitable remainder unitrust), ILITs (Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts), and QPRTs (qualified personal residence trust) as well as how useful family limited partnerships can be and so on. All of these estate planning tools have their pros and cons, but they are all options and can be specifically designed to meet each individual’s needs.
I would be happy to have a discussion with you to help you decide if any of these options are right for you.
As a side note: Woodinville Law has expanded a bit. We moved offices. We are still in the Windermere Real Estate Building, but we now have space on the ground floor and we have hired another legal assistant.
That’s all I have for now, I just wanted to give you all a little update on the happenings around here. I’d love to hear about your life updates. Feel free to send me an email at amber@woodinvillelaw.com. I look forward to connecting with you.
